41st European Symposium on Occultation Projects (ESOP)

in Granada, Spain, September 10 – 11, 2022

The 41st European Occultation Projects Symposium will be held at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA-CSIC) in Granada, Spain, in 2022. Following the symposium we will offer a social program including a visit to the famous Alhambra and a day trip to the Calar Alto Astronomical Observatory (CAHA) near Almería. ESOP will be held in a hybrid mode, i.e. in person in Granada and as a virtual conference via Zoom. The European Symposium on Occultation Projects is organized annually by the International Occultation Timing Association/European Section (IOTA/ES). As usual, the IOTA/ES annual conference included lectures and interesting field trips.

ESOP will take place one week before the Europlanet Science Congress (EPSC), to be held in Granada as well on 18-23 September, where up to 1000 both professional and amateur astronomers from around the world are expected to participate, thus offering you the possibility to attend both conferences with a week of recreation in between in the beautiful region of Andalusia. Moreover this will be a good opportunity to enhance the pro-am link in the domain of occultation astronomy.

Granada is the capital city of the Granada province, one of the eight in the autonomous community of Andalucía, Spain, and is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains. However, it is also only one hour by car from the Mediterranean coast and about 1,5 hours from the city of Málaga. Granada is also well known within Spain for the University of Granada (UGR) which has about 80,000 students, forming a significant part of the total population of the city. Granada has a lot to offer in terms of infrastructure (accommodation, traveling), culture, food (tapas!), sightseeing, nature and science.

We are looking forward to welcome you in Granada !
